A long-serving Posh fan who has supported the club for 85 years has used his time in lockdown to devise a testing 26 question charity quiz.

Eric Heath (93) from Warmington is taking part in the 2.6 Challenge to raise money for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and Facial Palsy UK.

Eric watched the club’s very first game in September 1934 at the tender age of eight – and has been a loyal fan ever since.

He has used his extensive knowledge to create a thorough 26 question quiz about Peterborough United’s history and players.

“I was one of the crowd of 4,033 who turned out on September 1, 1934 to see the very first match at the age of eight years old,” said Eric. “I have been a fan of Peterborough United ever since.

“In February 1947, the then manager Sam Haden invited me to play a match for the Peterborough United first team. I was 20 years old, which was very exciting, but a one off.”

Eric said he would be grateful if people could enter his quiz and consider making a donation to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and Facial Palsy UK. He aims to raise £200.

“I chose Sue Ryder because I’ve always felt they were a most deserving local Peterborough charity, they also looked after my brother Terry before he died,” he said.

“My daughter was born with facial palsy so I also support Facial Palsy UK.”

Nilesh Patel, senior community fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “Good luck to everyone taking part! We would like to say a big thank you to Eric for his kind support.

“The funds raised for our hospice will ensure we can continue to offer our expert palliative care and be there when it matters for people at the most difficult time of their lives.”

The closing date is Saturday, May 2. The winner of the quiz will receive a £50 voucher for the Peterborough United Football club shop.
