Peterborough MP call for in-depth report to find ways to keep city's Lido open for longer next summer
A formal request has been made to council chiefs to keep Peterborough’s Lido open longer next summer.
The call has been submitted by Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes who wants Peterborough City Council to begin work to ensure the city’s water attractions are kept open for longer next summer and beyond.
He wants an in-depth report to be drawn up to look at what maintenance and preparation needs to be done to ensure the Lido stays open for more days next year.
He says the action is vital to ensure that families can get more enjoyment from the hotter weather.

Mr Pakes also wants officials to examine whether linking up the management of the Lido and the planned new indoor swimming pool on the Embankment, which could open in 2028, will help the facilities to stay open longer.
He wants the new report to be drawn up to examine the nature of any maintenance and preparation work that needs to be carried out to ensure the Lido can stay open longer.
Currently the Lido opens at the end of May and closes at the end of September.
The council recently spent £90,000 installing cover over the two pools to ensure the water remained warmer for longer and helped save on energy costs.

Mr Pakes is also urging the council to ensure that Bretton Water Park and the Central Park Paddling Pool can also stay open longer.
He said: “I have asked the council to make preparations for opening our water facilities earlier next year so that more families can benefit from the hotter weather.
“I’ve also asked the council to work with groups like the Friends of the Lido to see how we can open the season earlier next year including a report on what maintenance and preparation needs to be done.

"The addition of the covers this year to help keep the heat in should help.
He said: “We also know one of the problems that regularly plagues the water park and paddling pool is poor maintenance.
“So I’d like a proper report on how we can manage these facilities so they can open earlier if we have the right weather.
And Mr Pakes added: “In the long term bringing management between the new pool and Lido together will help achieve longer hours for the outdoor facilities.”
Councillor Shabina Qayyum, the council leader, has previously said: “It has always been a vision of this administration to open the Lido earlier in future.”
