Peterborough labels maker looks to create jobs after new investment

AA Labels, based in Wainman Road, Orton Longueville, has ramped up its operation after carrying out a 340sqm expansion of its premises.

The investment in a roll label converter press and automatic core cutting machine will allow the company to enter the embellishment market with embossing, hot foil, screen printing and spot UV varnish finish options.

It takes AA Labels’ total investment in new equipment to more than £1 million in the last 12 months.

The business employs 30 staff in Peterborough plus 35 in Lahore in Pakistan and expects the new investment to create up to four jobs at the city base.

It plans to introduce a new shift early next year with the purchase and delivery of another flat-sheet press in June, creating additional jobs.

Demand for label embellishments is growing in the confectionary, health and beauty, food and beverage, and fragrance industries. The wine and cosmetics trades have used embossed product labels for many years in combination with selective finishes.

Also, embossing and screen-printing will enable the company to include braille on labels for visually impaired people, such as pharmaceutical labels for prescription products.

Sohail Sethi, managing director, said: “The learning-curve for these new label services is very steep, but it is the right next step for this business and we are very excited.”

He added: “Our business has been growing at 20 per cent each year for the past five years and we have gained a huge number of new customers from market sectors requiring the kind of quality embellished labels that we will soon be producing

“Therefore, we have confidence in the investment, which we expect to pay for itself within only a few years.”

AA Labels was created in 2006 and manufactures and distributes plain and printed labels in a range of materials, adhesives and finishes for commercial, industrial, specialist and home use throughout Europe and in Canada, Argentina, America, Australia and Hong Kong.
