This is due to an increasing number of refuse collectors self-isolating as a consequence of Covid-19, and the amount of recycling and waste collected still being 20 per cent higher than before the lockdown.

Due to reduced staffing levels, Aragon Direct Services want residents to be aware bin collection crews will be unable to collect residents brown bins containing garden waste - a service which has been free of charge for those who have previously subscribed since mid-May. This is to ensure prioritisation can be given to collecting general waste and recycling for all residents.

A spokesperson for Aragon Direct Services said: “Our bin crews have done a first class job continuing to serve the city of Peterborough throughout Covid-19. Many of these key workers have voluntarily put in many hours of overtime over the past 12 weeks, while colleagues with pre-existing health conditions were self-isolating, to ensure our bins could be collected at a time when we needed it most.”

The council’s household recycling centre in Fengate is available for garden waste. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm from Monday to Sunday.
