Peterborough Foodbank launches its Harvest food campaign - here is how you can help

A new campaign has been launched to ensure Peterborough Food Bank has enough supplies to help residents in need across the city.

National Foodbank Awareness Day is marked on Friday, September 4, and the Peterborough Food Bank is urging people to support their services – either by hosting a food donation drive or by donating some of their most needed items.

Schools, businesses, religious and community groups are all encouraged to take part in the drive – and a shopping list of the items that are most needed has been drawn up.

By collecting much-needed food and household essentials, you can help the team at the food bank keep their shelves stocked and ensure they can continue providing life-changing support to people across our community – especially as the more difficult autumn and winter months approach.

Alan, Peterborough food bank supervisor said: “Harvest is a vital time for us to bring in food donations to make sure our warehouse shelves are stocked for winter when we will see more demand for our food banks.

"We are launching our campaign today on National Food Bank Awareness Day because we need more people talking about food poverty in Peterborough and the need to support their local food bank.

"We are currently spending £6,000 a month on food on top of the donations we receive to keep up with the demand in our food bank centres. We need your support.”

The demand for our services remains high. Last year the food bank in Peterborough distributed just under 6,000 emergency food parcels, which equates to feeding 12,662 people.

Peterborough Foodbank offers more than just food parcels. They also provide a warm and welcoming environment, where people feel valued and loved with a cup of tea, a chat and signposting to other services.

Every donation makes a difference.

You can bring your donations to Dodson House, Fengate PE1 5XG Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm or shop online at https://givetoday.co.uk/peterboroughfoodbank/
