The issue arose early last month when a number of disgruntled fans contacted the club after receiving parking fines, dating back to the start of the season (September 19).

Parking is available for fans attending matches at the club’s Bee Arena ground but the car park is owned by the next door Thistlemoor Medical Centre and monitored by Parking Eye. Fans are allowed to use the car park on matchdays, provided they register their number plate on a tablet provided to the club.

The majority of fans who received fines of up to £100 had done this and were incensed when they received the fines.

They were urged to contact the club in order to compile a full list to put to Parking Eye.

In a statement at the time, Chairman Grant Biddle said: “We have been bombarded today with people who have received Parking Eye notices for games in the last six weeks. Can anyone respond if they have please.

Peterborough Sports can only apologise but it seems everyone who has keyed their registration into the tablet since the start of the season has not been recorded. This could run into hundreds but possibly thousands, If we can have name, date and registration we will compile the list.

“Please bear with us while we resolve but in the meantime can you please appeal online as per instruction and explain you did key into the tablet.”

After a series of appeals and pressure from the club, the parking firm has now agreed to cancel the fines after it appeared that this data had gone missing.

A statement on the club’s Twitter account confirmed the news. It read: “As a football club we’ve received the following, I outline next steps for you from Parking Eye. All charges for both car parks – staff and public have today been cancelled.

“The period covers from 29 July to 17 November. Cancellation letter has been sent if they have details.”
