Orton garden shed to be transformed into pet grooming salon
A garden shed at a residential property in Orton Goldhay is set to become a pet grooming salon, according to plans.
A planning application supporting the proposals was registered with Peterborough City Council by Silvia Mourao on May 14.
The proposals request permission to repurpose an unused wooden outbuilding within the garden area of Ms Mourao’s ground-floor flat in Hanbury so that it can accommodate a pet grooming business.
The application states that the effort needed to repurpose the shed will be negligible, with “no external works or impact on biodiversity.”

In addition, the plans highlight that lighting for the new grooming salon will be achieved via extensions from the flat.
Ms Maurao will be the sole employee and director of the new business, which will be open to the public from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
She holds City & Guilds certificates from the College of Animal Welfare in Huntingdon, and has previous experience of pet grooming from when she lived in her home country of Portugal.
Accent Housing, which owns the land the proposed grooming business is set to operate on, has given its permission for Ms Maurao to set up a business – as long as certain conditions are met:
“This permission is granted on the strict understanding that the business does not cause any nuisance or disturbance to neighbours,” the company stated.
“If any complaints are received from other residents, or if we receive evidence of misuse of the communal areas, this permission will be withdrawn immediately.”
Accent also insisted: “All clients and dogs must enter and exit the property via the back gate only. Under no circumstances are the communal doors, hallways, or entrances to be used by your business or its customers.”
The council’s planning department is currently considering the proposals. The application can be viewed online at the city council’s planning portal, using reference 26/002121/FUL.
