Orton cafe granted licence to sell alcohol despite objections from residents
A popular cafe in Ortongate Shopping Centre has been granted a licence to sell alcohol.
Following a Licensing Committee meeting held at Sand Martin House, Peterborough City Council granted Dusanka Area Lopez – proprietor of the Peckish Brothers eatery – permission to sell alcohol on the premises from Midday to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.
The licence will also permit the cafe to serve alcohol directly outside to patrons seated at six tables.
Peckish Brothers has been open for six months and serves a wide range of British, European and world foods.

Ms Lopez said her reason for applying for the licence was to give her customers the option to enjoy a tipple with their food.
The meeting heard there were six objections from local residents who were worried the sale of alcohol would lead to an increase in public drunkenness, anti-social behaviour and litter.
Concerns were also raised about the possibility of youngsters being able to take unfinished alcoholic drinks – sometimes called ‘minesweeping’ – from vacated outdoor tables.
Ms Lopez addressed these concerns by insisting CCTV would be present to monitor and discourage such behaviour. In addition, staff would tidy tables as soon as patrons dining outside left.
Ms Lopez also explained that alcohol would only be sold until late during the warmer months. During the winter, Peckish Brothers would close at 7pm.
