Needles at the ready after grant to Deepings group

Knitting needles will be clicking away to create woollens for deserving causes around The Deepings, thanks to a £250 district council ward member grant from Market and West Deeping Cllr Virginia Moran.

Deeping Cares is made up of volunteers who give their time and expertise to knit blankets, clothes and toys.

Cllr Moran said: “This hard-working group of local volunteers produces knitted items for causes such as care homes, dementia groups and Peterborough Hospital’s baby delivery suites.

“They contribute a lot to people’s happiness and wellbeing, and need funding to pay for the patterns and wool.”

Group treasurer Jane Hayball said: “Our next project is knitting blankets which we will donate to babies’ families who need to stay in Peterborough Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

“We are creating knitted Christmas-themed garments ready for Christmas 2020, and items for Bumps and Beyond in Stamford, which supports families during and after pregnancy.”
