Two years ago, on August 26 2018, Isla Haligan - then aged just seven - was involved in a car crash on the A1 at Wansford.

According to The Wandsworth Guardian, She was travelling down to Essex with her dad’s partner at 11am in a black Ford Fiesta, when it crashed into a tree going 70 miles per hour.

According to the paramedics, a couple pulled over and carried Isla out of the wrecked car, wrapping her in a blanket and speaking to her to keep her alive.

Abi Haligan, Isla’s mum, said she received a dreaded phone call from police, saying they were dealing with a fatality and asking her to come to Peterborough Hospital.

She said: “She had a hole in her foot, a laceration in her hip, a chipped pelvis, a broken chest and foot, as well as bumps, bruises, scrapes, black eye - you name it she had it.”

Isla had to be moved to Nottingham as the trauma team could not deal with the scale of her injuries. She was then moved to critical care at home in Alder Hey, Liverpool where she had to re-learn to walk.

Now 9-years-old, Isla’s recovery has been a slow process and she still has permanent damage in her leg.

“But she’s alive and that’s all that matters,” said Ms Haligan.

Despite asking officers, the teacher from Liverpool never received any information about the kind couple who stepped in to save her daughter.

“I’ve been trying ever since to find them. We would like to let the couple know that she’s fine, and that Isla talks about them often.”

“I want to say, with every fibre in my body, thank you so much for being there and getting Isla out of dangers way. They grabbed her like any human would do and showed compassion for her. They acted like a mum and dad while when I couldn’t be there,” said Ms Haligan.

She’s urging the couple, or anyone with information, to contact her at [email protected]
