More city centre roadworks to impact Peterborough drivers over summer holidays

With the high temperatures showing little sign of abating, and several major road maintenance projects appearing on some of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, drivers will invariably be feeling the heat as schools break up.

Unfortunately, the much publicised works being done to the A47 and the Queensgate roundabout will not be the only inconveniences those on four (or two) wheels will have to contend with this summer

Here are full details of other roadworks scheduled for July and August:

Eastgate

Gas main replacement works will see a number of roads forced to close within Eastgate over the coming months.

Reeves Way, as it lies between Norman Road and number 9, will be closed from Tuesday, July 21 to Monday, August 3. The recommended diversion is: Reeves Way, Ashcroft Gardens,Eastfield Road, Padholme Road, Saxon Road and Norman Road (and vice versa.)

Norman Road, between Reeves Way and Park Lane, will also close on Tuesday, July 21, although it will stay closed until Monday, August 17. Reeves Way, Ashcroft Gardens, Eastfield Road, Padholme Road and Saxon Road (and vice versa) is the alternative routing in place for that one.

Also worth bearing in mind (even though it’s outside of term time) is that the unnamed access road to St John Fisher School from its junction with Park Lane will be off limits to vehicles from Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 21. Alternative routing can be found via Park Lane, Padholme Road, Saxon Road and Norman Road (and vice versa).

All closure dates will be confirmed locally on site.

Though not in the city centre, other planned works may also prove an inconvenience to drivers looking to get out and about this summer.

Castor

Peterborough Road, as it lies in Castor between The Green and Manor Farm Lane is set to close just days after schools have kicked out for the summer.

While closure dates will be confirmed locally on site, it is anticipated the water main works being carried out by Anglian Water will take place between Sunday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 21.

The somewhat convoluted diversion in place for these works is: Peterborough Road, A47 west, A47 east, A47 J15, A47 west, Castor and Ailsworth off-slip, Marholme Road and Peterborough Road (and vice versa).

Eye Green

Green Road at Eye Green will be closed 40m east of Woolfehill Road for the first week of the summer holidays.

Scheduled chamber cover and frame repair works should see the road shut from Tuesday, July 21 to Thursday, July 23, although actual closure dates will be confirmed locally on site.

Drivers hoping to avoid this inconvenience are advised to use this routing: Green Road, Whitepost Road, A47, Crowland Road, and Green Road (and vice versa).
