Kind-hearted elderly residents clear footpath for community access

Tired of their local area being covered in debris, Chris Phillips (69) and his wife Sandra decided to clear the footpath described by residents as a ‘jungle’.

The pathway which is near St John’s Church in Stanground leads toward the city centre and is a regular for dog-walkers. The footpath was ridden with branches which made walking down there a ‘nightmare’ for locals.

Beaming granddaughter Keely-Jo Phillips said she was ‘incredibly proud’ of her grandparents. The wonderful kind gesture has been recognised by hundreds of residents on Facebook, calling him a 'star' and a 'legend'. Many more have offered to continue to help out with the pathway to keep it clear.

After hours of hard work the path is now fully-accessible. Not stopping there, Chris has also created a bench out of logs and installed this to make the area more pleasant.
