Jobs created as new Peterborough Aldi supermarket names opening date

Jobs have been created with the opening of a new Aldi supermarket in Peterborough.

Thirty staff have been recruited for the just-completed Aldi store at the Peterborough One Retail Park, in Eye Road, which opens at 8am on June 10.

Construction work on the 18,500 sq ft store began last November.

Store Manager Reece Bailey said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the new store here in Peterborough.

The new Aldi store at Peterborough One Retail Park is to open on June 10.

“It’s set to be a great day and it’ll be lovely to welcome our new customers into the store and provide them with access to affordable, high-quality food.”

She said in order to help stop the spread of Covid-19, the store will have a number of safety measures in place, including sanitisation stations on entry, Perspex screens at its tills and social distancing reminders in store plus a traffic light system in place to control the number of people going in and out of the store.

The store’s opening times will be 8am to 10pm on Mondays to Saturdays and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Ms Bailey said the store will offer fresh, British meat products, Aldi’s award winning ‘Specially Selected’ range of beers, wines and spirits, and a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store.

Its Specialbuys on a range of products from electrical items to garden tools, will be available in the middle aisle each Thursday and Sunday.

The store is also urging local charities and food banks in Peterborough to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week.

The new store will be run by Store Manager Reece Bailey, along with a team of 30 colleagues from the local community.

As part of Aldi’s investment in local communities across the UK, the store on Eye Road will bring 10 new job opportunities to the area and offer more customers access to Aldi’s high quality, low-price products.
