A Peterborough woman has won a national award for caring for her husband for 24 years following his motorbike accident.

Annie Bamforth has been recognised as Accidental Carer of the Year as part of The British Caregiver Award, a national scheme set up by personal injury advice service National Accident Helpline in partnership with national disability charity Revitalise.

Despite Jon’s injury the grandparents still maintain their part-time careers as music teachers and volunteer at Peterborough prison.

Annie was presented with a glass trophy at the couple’s parish church, St John the Baptist, in Cathedral Square.

She said: “Jon has continued to provide for me and our family through thick and thin. He is worth all the work.”

Jon said: “Annie is the world to me. She looks after me despite how tired it makes her. She sees the disability, not me, as the problem. I feel very loved.”
