More than 50 full-time jobs will be created for staff to operate the new 10,500 square metre Amazon Logistics delivery station at Peterborough Gateway that opens this summer.

But it will also create hundreds of jobs for drivers employed with Amazon’s delivery service partners.

The delivery station has been set up in a bid to improve the speed of delivery in the so-called ‘last mile’ of Amazon’s order process.

Its staff will load into delivery vehicles and deliver the packages for the Peterborough area brought in from neighbouring Amazon fulfilment and sorting centres.

Kerry-Anne Lawlor, Country Director for Amazon Logistics, said: “We are excited to continue to invest in the Peterborough area with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create new jobs for the talented workforce.”

North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara said: “I welcome the announcement by Amazon of a new logistics delivery station which will be based in my constituency.

“With the creation of over 50 permanent jobs for local residents, in addition to the greater investment, this delivery station will help boost the local economy while also shortening delivery times in our area.”

Amazon currently employs more than 1,000 staff at its fulfilment centre at Flaxley Road, Kingston Park, in Hampton, and at Southgate Way Orton Southgate.

The delivery station will be the latest in a growing number of arrivals of Peterborough Gateway.

On their way to the burgeoning employment zone are vegan milk manufacturer Oatly, which expects to create 200 jobs, and American spice giant McCormick, which plans to recruit 300 staff.
