Former Peterborough pub set to be converted into mosque as new buyers confirmed
A former pub in Peterborough city centre is set to be converted into a mosque.
The Cavendish pub on Eastfield Road, which closed its doors several years ago, has now been purchased by the Peterborough Muslim Community Initiative (PCMI).
The PCMI has plans to renovate and refurbish the building into a new masjid (mosque).
In 2023, plans were first put forward to the council and later approved to change the use of the building at 123 Eastfield Road from a pub into a religious education centre. Detailed plans concerning the inside the the building and its full conversion were withdrawn, however, in November 2024.

The sale of the building to the PCMI has been confirmed in the last month.
A fundraising appeal has now been launched to facilitate the conversion of the building.
The fundraising page launched states: “We are now moving into the next phase of developing the building and preparing the building to serve the community. We now need to raise funds to renovate and refurbish the building to turn it into a useable masjid.
“Building a masjid is one of the greatest forms of ongoing charity that we can engage in. Every brick laid, every prayer performed and every soul guided within the walls of the masjid will be a source of continuous reward for you in the akhirah (afterlife).
“Imagine the countless prayers that will be offered in this new masjid, the Qur’an that will be recited, the knowledge that will be shared, and the community bonds that will be strengthened.”
