Food flavourings maker starts construction of job creating production hub in Peterborough

Spice giant McCormick has today started construction work on a new production hub in Peterborough

The US-based company has hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for its new UK flavour Sslutions manufacturing facility at Alwalton Hill, at Peterborough Gateway.

The manufacturing facility, which will create about 300 jobs, is central to McCormick’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) strategy.

McCormick revealed in February that it had successfully secured contracts on the land purchase for its new facility.

The facility is expected to be completed next year.

Chris Jinks, President of McCormick EMEA, said: “Today’s ground-breaking ceremony is an important milestone for the future of our business in EMEA, as we strive to become a competitively-advantaged, digitally-enabled and sustainable supplier.

“I would like to thank all of our colleagues, partners and Peterborough City Council, who hav been instrumental in helping us reach this exciting stage of the project.

“We are pleased to develop this site in Peterborough, which provides strong connectivity to our customers’ distribution networks, and we look forward to strengthening our ties with the area, to become a prominent community partner.”

Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said; “We welcome McCormick to the local community and are excited about the Company’s future plans.

“It has been a pleasure to work closely with McCormick during the planning phase of the new facility and it is fantastic to see construction underway today.”

Tom Hennessy, chief executive of Opportunity Peterborough, said: “We are delighted that a company of McCormick’s heritage and scale has chosen to establish itself in Peterborough.
