Damaged sewers shut Lincoln Road in Northborough for several weeks
Works being carried out to repair sewers in Northborough will see the village’s main road closed for several weeks
Lincoln Road, which affords chief access for most drivers and bus routes through the village, has already been closed for several days.
Anglian Water, which is carrying out the works, said the road closure is set to remain in place until August 3.
“Our teams are currently working on Lincoln Road, Northborough, as part of an ongoing programme of repairs that began earlier this year after a damaged sewer pipe was identified in the area,” a spokesperson said.

“This repair work, which began in May, will help to improve the sewer network and reduce the risk of problems in the future.” The spokesperson added: “To safely complete a section of these repairs, a road closure is currently in place on Lincoln Road for two weeks. This is required to enable our teams to safely undertake the next phase of the repair work and is not related to any collapsed sewers.” This is a reference to the fact some reports had circulated earlier this week suggesting the work was a response to an ‘emergency sewer collapse’.
The closure has caused significant inconvenience for some by leaving Northborough and Glinton without a regular bus service.
“We appreciate this will cause disruption for residents, businesses and road users,” Anglian Water said, “and we're working to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
Residents affected by these works can find updates and further information by heading to Anglian Water’s Check on or report an issue website and typing Northborough into the search bar.
