Community sports event to take over Peterborough's Central Park for fourth year
A sports taster day in Peterborough’s Central Park, which is all about promoting sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles for children, will return on June 6.
Each year, as part of ‘Activate’, sports clubs are invited to put on free sports sessions for children, so they can have a go at a range of different sports they may never have tried before.

This year there will be new clubs and providers who haven’t participated before, such as Posh Foundation, Inspired Martial Arts, Peterborough City Basketball Club, Yaxley Runners and Fenland Clarion Cycling Club.
Plus others who are present each year including Peterborough Lions Rugby Club, Vivacity and Aspire Parkour Academy will be back.

Steve Harknett, Event Director from Friends of Central Park, said: “We are delighted that the event seems to grow each year, with sports clubs eager to take part and show what they do. It’s also a great recruitment opportunity for them.”
It’s free for children to participate, and after trying different sports and activities they can pick up a free gift. The event is being sponsored by the Co-op Group through their Local Community Fund.
As well as trying sports and activities, children and families can also benefit from various community stalls. The Co-op Group will be promoting its ‘Big Lunch’ initiative and making wildflower seed pots, while OurCoop will present activities promoting healthy living. The Second Chance Uniform Shop will be present, enabling parents to swap PE kit and school uniform.
