Campaign group battling for Peterborough residents seeks to strengthen forces

A campaign group battling on behalf of Peterborough residents is looking to bolster its numbers.

The West Ortons Residents’ Association is looking to attract new members as it celebrates its first anniversary.

The group was set up 12 months ago to support people living in Orton Southgate, Orton Northgate and Orton Wistow in the west of Peterborough.

Now the group is to hold its first annual meeting on May 14.

Redevelopment plans for the East of England Showground were one of the issues to attract the attention of the West Ortons Residents’ Association during its first year.

During the year, the group has campaigned on plans for a 1,500 homes and leisure village development on the East of England Showground, proposals by the Nene Park Trust for new activities at Lynch Farm and a raft of planning issues at the Lynchwood Business Park.

Chairman Steve Swan said: "The group has been heavily involved in monitoring these issues and speaking up for residents, while also addressing local concerns such as speeding, illegal parking and

poor lighting.

“It has been a good year establishing ourselves with a solid membership base of like-minded people wanting to maintain and improve the lives of all our residents.

“If anyone would like to have their say and be part of the discussion please come to the meeting."

The meeting will take place at The Windmill pub in Orton Waterville on May 14th at 7.30pm.

Mr Swan added: “Residents of Orton Northgate, Southgate and Wistow are invited to the meeting, which will include the re-election of officers and a review of the association’s first active year, with the opportunity for anyone attending to bring up local issues.”
