All the jobs on offer at Peterborough’s Umami buffet ahead of its opening - and how much they pay, including £45k-a-year role

Job-seekers in Peterborough are being invited to apply for four vacancies available at the city’s new Umami World Kitchen restaurant.

The all-you-can-eat buffet, set to open in the Queensgate Shopping Centre later this year, is accepting applications for roles including Head Chef and Chef De Partie.

While an opening date for the new restaurant is yet to be announced, a spokesperson for the Queensgate Shopping Centre recently told the Peterborough Telegraph that it will be “in the near future”.

Once open, the new all-you-can-eat buffet experience will showcase over 100 dishes drawn from multiple cuisines, including Chinese, Italian, Indian, and Malaysian.

The concept will include a mix of family-friendly favourites alongside street food, and a teppanyaki station for made-to-order Japanese dishes.

Guests can also enjoy exciting Chef’s Specials from Monday to Saturday for continued variety, as well as a traditional Sunday carvery.

Below we’ve taken a look at the four roles available at the new restaurant, including the salaries on offer.

Head Chef

Salary: £42,000 - £45,000 a year

The Head Chef will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, managing the culinary team, maintaining food quality, and ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.

This is a leadership role where you’ll be expected to inspire creativity, develop new menus, control costs, and maintain a positive, productive kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities include leading the kitchen team, overseeing food preparation and maintaining inventory levels.

The successful candidate will have proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or in a similar culinary leadership role within a restaurant.

They will also have in-depth knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and food preparation methods.

Assistant Manager Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 a year

As an Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the management team, ensuring that the restaurant operates efficiently, staff is well-trained, and customers receive excellent service.

Key responsibilities include assisting the General Manager and Deputy General Manager in the daily operation of the restaurant, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and supporting the restaurant team.

The successful candidate will have proven experience as an Assistant Manager, Supervisor, or in a similar leadership role in the restaurant or hospitality industry.

They will also possess a strong understanding of restaurant operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house.

Chef De Partie

Salary: £12.71 - £13.50 per hour

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a specific section of the kitchen (e.g., sauces, grill, pastry) and ensuring that food preparation and service meet the restaurant's high standards.

You will work closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef to ensure smooth kitchen operations and efficient service.

Key responsibilities include managing a designated section of the kitchen, ensuring food preparation is carried out to the highest standards. The role also involves preparing and cooking food according to the menu, ensuring quality, consistency, and presentation. The successful candidate will have proven experience as a Chef de Partie or in a similar role in a professional kitchen, as well as strong knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations.

Team Front of House (FOH) Section Leader Salary: £10.85 - £13 per hour As a FOH Section Lead, you will be responsible for supervising the front-of-house team, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and maintaining efficient service operations. Key responsibilities include leading and supervising FOH staff, ensuring smooth and efficient service. You will also provide excellent customer service, handling guest inquiries and special requests professionally.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a FOH leadership role and excellent communication skills.
