We’re now in the final week of April, which means that by this time next week we’ll be able to say that summer starts next month.
Infamously temperamental in terms of weather, the British summer months are often a mixed bag of scorching sunshine and torrential rain.
But late spring and summer marks the return of many much-loved outdoor events, such as festivals, carnivals and air shows.
Here in Peterborough there is so much to look forward to over the next three-and-a-bit months, so we’ve pulled together seven of the biggest events happening in the city that you should add to your diaries.
Some will be held over the next few weeks, while others are scheduled for mid-summer.
From community festivals to dragon boat races, there really is something for everyone.

6. Peterborough Lido Big Birthday Weekender
Peterborough Lido is celebrating its 90th birthday with a weekend of festivities at the end of May. With soulful acoustic sets for early morning swimming, nostalgia from the GB Home Guard Band to full-on soul and funk with Peterborough favourites The Contacts and Groove Cartel, the celebrations promise to take party-goers back to the Lido’s heyday with swimming, music and dancing all weekend. Tickets are now on sale for the event, which will take place between May 29 and May 31. Photo: PT

7. Nick Smith Memorial Charity Gig
This year's Nick Smith Memorial Charity Gig will be held at Charters on Sunday, June 21 between 12pm and 9pm. Last year's event raised more than £11,000 for the Nick Smith Music Foundation, and visitors to the event were treated to nine hours of music, across two stages. Further details of the event – including which bands will be performing – will be announced nearer the time. Photo: Peterborough Telegraph
