Work begins on development which will bring 250 new homes to Peterborough village

Work has begun on a new development of 250 homes in a Peterborough village.

Peterborough-based homebuilder Allison Homes Central is set to deliver 265 new homes in the village at land located just off Eyebury Road.

The development will be known as Colliers Rest and consist of 185 open market sale homes and 80 affordable homes. These will be a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom homes.

Alongside these new homes, Allison Homes Central will be providing over three hectares of public open space, new play areas and allotments on the site, as well as land for an extension to Eye CofE Primary School.

Initial groundworks have begun this week but residents have raised a number of concerns about the work, raising issues of large trucks blocking roads, noise and issue with large plumes of dust being dug and and travelling towards nearby house as well as the next door Field House Care Home.

Concerns were also raised about the level of planning approval secured before work should be allowed to start but Peterborough City Council has confirmed that it is satisfied that the development can lawfully proceed.

Resident Dale Mckean said: “I have seen the road virtually blocked on a blind corner with a massive low loader delivering a dumper truck.

A number of people have been complaining about the situation. The dust and noise have caused chaos.”

Cllr Mark Ormston has been in contact with the council regrading a number of the issues raised and has issued an update to residents.

He said: “Planning has stated, ‘we are satisfied that development can lawfully proceed. The site will continue to be monitored, and we will liaise with the developer where necessary to ensure any issues are addressed proportionately.’

“This does feel contradictory to some of our understanding relating to when site work could commence, as outlined in LP40. We will continue to question this point.

"On the generator noise, the site manager has informed us that there was a fault over the weekend which caused it to ‘kick in’ unexpectedly. This has now been rectified and should not cause any further issues going forward.

“ think the incoming weather is likely going to solve the issue of the dust, hwever, the longer-term solution still needs addressing, and of course, the rain will bring other challenges. We are informed that the site manager is ensuring the appropriate measures are being put in place and a meeting is being held with the wider site team today to reinforce the controls and measures in place

“Given the number of complaints and concerns being raised, enforcement is keeping an eye on the site and has promised to regularly update the ward councillors.”
