Residents are once again being urged to take their litter home with them or use park bins when they visit Ferry Meadows and other parks in the city.

A spokesman for the Nene Park Trust, which runs Ferry Meadows, said that as the number of visitors increases as lockdown is relaxed, staff have had to deal with more litter being left.In a tweet, the spokesman said: “As lockdown restrictions relax and our visitor numbers rise, we have sadly experienced an increase of #littering in the Park. We’re asking all visitors to join the #LoveWhereYouLive challenge by disposing of waste in the bins provided.”

It costs more than £50,000 every year to keep Nene Park clear of litter, and last week the RSPCA said they were facing more calls to rescue animals trapped in rubbish left behind across Cambridgeshire.
