With the park being extra busy over the sunny bank holiday weekend, rangers have been forced to spend much of Tuesday clearing up after some of the visitors.

Today The Peterborough Telegraph reported how fast food packaging was dumped near a Peterborough nature reserve after drive thru restaurants re-opened in the city last week.Today a spokesman for the Nene Park Trust said: “There is a lot of litter in the park today, as there is every Tuesday after a bank holiday. Our team of Park assistants and rangers are making good progress clearing up in the park so it should be looking tidy again by the end of the day.

“We have a litter crew in everyday of the week and they are doing the best they can with the numbers of visitors that we are getting.

“Having had eight weeks of a quieter Park with fewer visitors (and therefore less litter), the contrast is probably much more noticeable now – especially to our regular visitors.

“We would like to urge our visitors to dispose of their litter responsibly in the bins provided or to take it home with them, to maintain a pleasant Park for all.”

A Peterborough City Council spokesman said there had been no change to their litter picking schedule following the reports of an increase in litter.
