Trucker arrested on suspicion of drug driving after crash which closed A1 at Peterborough all day
A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving following a collision which closed the A1 at Peterborough on Tuesday (July 28).
Cambridgeshire Police said officers were called at 2.49am today (28 July) to the northbound carriageway following a collision involving two Scania HGVs.
A 43-year-old man from Saltburn, Cleveland, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Cambridgeshire Police said that the other driver, a 50-year-old man from Great Barr, Birmingham, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment.
He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the drug-drive limit and possession of cannabis. Police said he remains in custody.
The A1 northbound is likely to remain closed until this evening (July 28) while repairs are carried out to the road surface.
Officers are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it, to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from motorists with dashcam footage.

A police spokesperson added that the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by the force's Professional Standards Department in relation to an earlier incident involving one of the vehicles.

Northbound:
Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the A1 (M) on the free-flow lane prior to Junction17 Haddon and join the A1139 eastbound on Fletton Parkway.
At junction 3, exit the A1139 on to the A1260 Nene Parkway.
Continue north on the A1260 until the A47 Longthorpe Interchange, and turn left (west) on to the A47 Soke Parkway and continue west.
Travel straight over the A47 at Sutton roundabout and continue west until Wansford Junction.
At Wansford Junction, continue straight over the first roundabout and the A1 overbridge.
At the second roundabout, turn right on to the A1 northbound entry slip road and rejoin the A1.
