Milestone for police in Peterborough as medical treatment saves 50th person in county from drugs overdose

Police in Peterborough have reached the milestone of 50 people having been saved from a drugs overdose by officers administering emergency treatment.

Cambridgeshire Police said one of their PCSOs came across a man lying on the floor while on patrol in the city centre recently.

A force spokesperson explained: "After making a brief assessment he administered Naloxone – an emergency medical treatment to reverse the life-threatening effects of a suspected drug overdose.

“This marks the 50th life that has been potentially saved in Cambridgeshire thanks to the treatment!”

Naloxone has been part of the kit that a number of officers across Peterborough, Fenland, Huntingdon, and Cambridge carry day-to-day since it was adopted by the force back in April 2021.

The spokesperson added: “It falls under the work the Constabulary is doing as part of the public health initiative to prevent drug related deaths, and allows officers to easily help save lives while carrying out their duties in our communities.”
