The A1 is closed northbound at Peterborough following a collision between two lorries.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “ The A1 in Cambridgeshire is closed northbound between J17 of the A1(M) (near Peterborough A1139) and the A47 (near Wansford) following a serious collision involving two HGV's that occurred at 03:00.
“The closure remains in place to facilitate vehicle recovery and collision investigation.
“The southbound carriageway has since been reopened with lane 2 of (2) remaining closed for emergency services to work safely at the scene.
“Traffic caught within the closure is in the process of being released.
“Once recovery and collision investigation is complete, service providers will be able to access scene to assess any carriageway damage.”
A spokesperson for the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade said: “ A significant incident is currently ongoing on the A1 northbound, with multiple fire service crews, ambulance personnel, and police in attendance.
“The A1 northbound is fully closed between Chesterton and Wansford. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, seek alternative routes, and expect significant delays while emergency services respond.”
Diversion Details:
Northbound: Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the A1 (M) on the free-flow lane prior to Junction17 Haddon and join the A1139 eastbound on Fletton Parkway.
At junction 3, exit the A1139 on to the A1260 Nene Parkway.
Continue north on the A1260 until the A47 Longthorpe Interchange, and turn left (west) on to the A47 Soke Parkway and continue west.
Travel straight over the A47 at Sutton roundabout and continue west until Wansford Junction.
At Wansford Junction, continue straight over the first roundabout and the A1 overbridge.
At the second roundabout, turn right on to the A1 northbound entry slip road and rejoin the A1.
There is currently no news on if any injuries were suffered, and how severe any might have been.
