Bolu boosted by words from the Peterborough United chairman and he's determined to repay the faith

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has told Peterborough United fans ‘not to sleep’ on Bolu Shofowoke.

MacAnthony delivered his message during an interview on the popular Posh podcast ‘UpThePoshcast’ after being questioned on the need for another right winger ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Posh have just sold right winger Cian Hayes to Reading and another, Declan Frith, is on the transfer list, but MacAnthony believes 17 year-old Shofowoke could make an impact next season.

The teenager, a prolific goal-scoring central forward for Posh age group teams, started six League One games last season in a wide role and enjoyed some impressive moments, often thanks to a blistering turn of foot.

MacAnthony said: “We shouldn’t sleep on Bolu. He was one of our better players when out wide last season and he’s come back for pre-season in great shape. He looks bigger and stronger.”

Shofowoke picked up a shoulder injury after starting the final League One match of last season, but he’s fit now and raring to push on again. He’s determined to repay the faith shown in him by the first-team management team of Luke Williams and Ryan Harley.

"The shoulder still needs a bit of strengthening, but I’m good to go again,” Shofowoke told the Posh Plus service.

"It was only a sprain so nothing serious. The break did me good. Everyone needs a break and I feel refreshed now. I’ve enjoyed pre-season so far.

"It was new to me playing on the right wing, but it’s a position that could suit my strengths. I enjoyed it as I can get one-on-one with a defender and I hope I get more opportunities next season.

"Being on the wing helps me physically. I’m still likely to get smashed by defenders though!

"I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given. I’m still learning and doing the best I can, and I’ve been getting great help from the coaches.

"Even when I was the 19th man at games last season I would have a one-one-one session with Ryan Harley before the match and that sort of thing has been a massive for my development. It’s up to em to keep showing an eagerness to improve.”
