Driver arrested after being taken to hospital following collision near Peterborough - while second motorists flees crash scene

A man needed hospital treatment following a collision near Peterborough last night. - before he was arrested by police, while a second driver fled from the scene.

The collision, which Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said involved three vehicles happened at 8.12pm on Wednesday (January 13) in Guyhirn.

Emergency services arrived on the scene, and fire and rescue crews used specialist cutting equipment to release one man from a vehicle.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: "We were called at 8.05pm yesterday (13 January) to reports of a collision on Gull Road, Guyhirn involving a black BMW and a black Mercedes.

"Emergency services attended and the driver of the BMW, Jake Howling, 21, of Gorefield, Wisbech was taken to hospital and later charged with failing to provide a specimen.

"The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene and an investigation is underway."

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said; "One ambulance was sent to a road traffic collision at Gull Road Guyhirn Wisbech shortly after 8.30pm yesterday (January 13).

"One male was transported to Peterborough City Hospital for further assessment and care."
