SIXTY TWO people arrested for drink or drug driving during World Cup - including 70-year-old

Cambridgeshire Police said that there were a total of 62 arrests across the county.

A spokesperson said: “While the World Cup may now be over, as we recover from the highs and lows of the tournament, our commitment to tackling drink and drug drivers continues.

“During the tournament we arrested 62 people on suspicion of drink and drug driving.

“The youngest person arrested was 23 and the oldest was 70, with the highest recorded breath sample at 145ugs (more than four times the limit).

“Thank you to the 21 people who called in during the tournament to report drink and drug driving.

“Our confidential reporting line is open 24/7, where you can report concerns or information about drink and drug drivers – 0800 032 0845.”

In a bid to prevent drink driving across the rest of the summer, a number of pubs across Cambridgeshire – including in Peterborough – are taking part in the I Am Des scheme.

The project sees pubs offering free or discounted soft drinks to designated drivers.

If you own or work at a pub or licensed venue and would like to take part, or have any questions about the scheme, contact [email protected].
