Police smash window to rescue dog from car at Serpentine Green

Police had to smash a window of a car after concerns over the health of a dog.

The poor pooch was left panting after being left in the car at the Serpentine Green Shopping Centre car park.

Police said the window of the car had only been left open a small amount.

A spokesperson for the force said: “On Saturday afternoon, we received a call reporting concerns for a dog in a car at Serpentine Green in Hampton.

“The window was only slightly open and the dog was panting, but it was unknown how long it had been in the car.

“After numerous attempts to locate the owners, our officers had to smash the window to retrieve the dog. The owners were eventually found and given words of advice about the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars.

“If it is 22 degrees outside, a car can reach 47 degrees in just one hour – even if the car is parked in the shade and the windows are left slightly open.

“With temperatures expected to reach almost 40 degrees this week, it is important to keep everyone safe!

“Heatstroke can be fatal for dogs just as it can be for humans. If you notice a distressed dog alone in a car on a hot day, call 999 immediately.”
