Peterborough man charged with assault and racially abusing police officer

A man from Peterborough has been charged with four offences including assaulting one police officer and racially abusing another.

Lloyd Speight, 33, was arrested in Hampton Hargate in the early hours of Friday morning (5 February) on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, and an attempted GBH with intent.

During the arrest, a police officer was spat at and Speight was further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.

He was later further arrested on suspicion of being racially abusive towards a police officer.

Speight, of Branston Rise in Welland, was charged with racially aggravated abuse, assault by beating of an emergency worker, GBH with intent and attempted GBH with intent.

He appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (6 February) and has been remanded in custody to appear at Peterborough Crown Court on 5 March.
