Police have been carrying out inquiries ever since and on September 11, the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit launched a ‘no-body’ murder investigation.

All was quiet outside the family’s property this afternoon (September 14), with Police having left the scene and taken all evidence of their investigation with them.

While the street may have appeared to have returned to normal, neighbours have spoken of their shock following today’s events.

One told the Peterborough Telegraph: “It’s just really hard. I don’t know what to say or think.

“I’m in shock. I knew the family and it’s just a really difficult situation right now.

“I would never want to go through something like this.”

Another said: “It’s hard to imagine something like this happening right on your doorstep.

“The whole situation is really disturbing but these are only charges.

“I still have to have faith that the Police can find Bernadette alive and well.”

Many more admitted to being affected by this case but preferred not to comment.
