Jail sentence for thief who stole £500 worth of vapes and smashed window of Peterborough shop
A Peterborough man has been sentenced for criminal damage and the theft of approximately £500 worth of vape products.
Nadeem Atwell (36) who is currently serving a prison sentence at HMP Wayland, appeared via video link at Peterborough Magistrates Court on Friday morning (August 14) charged with theft from a shop and criminal damage to property.
The court heard that Atwell entered a branch of Nisa Local at the Chadburn Centre in Paston on December 21, 2025, where he was recognised by staff and swiftly challenged.
The court was told Atwell began to full up two buckets with vape products and, when attempting to leave, found the door closed. He kicked the door causing the pane of glass to smash.

CCTV shown the court showed Atwell becoming abusive to a staff member and then attempting to steal more products as the doors reopen, including pulling down a display.
Prosecutor Mark Parkhouse told the court that Atwell showed an "entitled attitude that he could just come and take the items away."
The shop estimated the item of the items taken or damaged to be around £500 and the cost of the door repair to be approximately £150
The prosecution also made an application for compensation for the shop worker to receive compensation for the distress caused.
When imposing sentence Magistrate Gill Mitchell sentenced Atwell to a further six weeks to run alongside his current sentence and ordered him to pay a total of compensation of £300 to the shop.
