Council aims to lead crackdown on car meets at Yaxley business park

Yaxley Parish has raised growing concerns about the amount of car meets taking place in the area.

The parish council has received increasing reports of anti-social behaviour taking place at Eagle Way Business Park, most often taking the form of car meets.

In Peterborough similar hotspots were identified in location such as Pleasure Fair Meadow Car Park, which led to a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) being put in place. An order is in place for three years at the car park that includes conditions which anyone caught breaching can face fines of up to £1,000 or Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs).

No such order is in place covering the business park and questions have been raised about nearby groups have relocated their activities to Yaxley.

One resident told the Peterborough Telegraph that noise from the site lasted late into the night on regular occasions with sounds of squealing brakes and loud revving engines “blighting the lives of people in the area.”

Yaxley Parish Council said: “We have received a number of reports regarding cars meeting on Eagle Way Business Park late at night. Reports have related to noise and damage to the road surface.

"We are in talks with the police and they have asked residents help in continuing to report any incidents, even if there isn’t always an immediate response.

"If possible, it would be beneficial for residents to note vehicle index numbers in a log and to preserve any relevant CCTV footage.”

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police added: “We are aware of recent vehicle-related anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area and are working closely with the parish and district councils. Additional patrols are being planned at key times to help address concerns.

“Tackling ASB remains a priority for neighbourhood policing teams. We encourage anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour where they live to report it, either by calling 101 or via our online reporting services.

“Where possible, please include dates, times and vehicle details, as this helps us build an accurate picture of what is happening and respond effectively.

“More information about anti-social behaviour, including how to report it, is available on the force website: https://www.cambs.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/.”
