Lincolnshire police said they believe the woman pictured in the CCTV image may have witnessed this incident take place at Surfleet Marsh near Spalding earlier this month.

A spokesman for the force said: “Although the image is not the best of quality we are hoping that it may jog someone’s memory.”

PC Martin Green said: “Our investigations are ongoing into this horrific incident of animal cruelty.

“As part of our investigations we have obtained a CCTV image of a young woman seen walking on Surfleet Bank at about 10.10pm on 17th July. This was in the area where the sheep were killed, at that time there were two or three vehicles as well as people in the field.

“The woman in the image is described as about 20-years-old, slim, brown bobbed hair, wearing light stone washed coloured ripped jeans and a sleeved bomber type padded jacket.

“We believe this woman may have been in the field when this incident happened and may have seen it taking place. The woman then left the field on foot heading towards the village of Surfleet Seas End. She then walked along the road near the Ship Inn pub, along Surfleet Bank and Reservoir Road before returning to the field a short time later.

Three sheep died as a result of a collision involving a 4x4. One was set on fire while it was still alive.

Eight sheep are still missing. These may have been pushed into the River Welland.

A further 30 sheep have been receiving veterinary treatment as a result of this incident.
