WATCH: Thief who made off with haul of Ferrero Rocher, meat, alcohol and electronics from Wisbech shops is jailed
A thief who amassed a haul of stolen goods worth more than £2000 has been jailed for almost two years.
Cabridgeshire Police said Daniel Loates, 40, targeted shops in Wisbech 16 times between October and December, stealing items such as Ferrero Rocher chocolates, alcohol, meat, and electronics.
“He targeted numerous shops including Tesco, in Kirkgate Street; Tesco Express, in Cromwell Road; and Londis in Norwich Road; and Holland and Barrett, in Norfolk Street, Kings Lynn, Norfolk,” a force spokesperson explained.
At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (14 January), Loates, of no fixed address, was jailed for a year and 48 weeks and ordered to pay £1754.40 in compensation.
Police said the offences also breached a 48-week suspended sentence he received in November for 20 thefts.
PC Rebecca Risebrow, from the northern Spree Offender Team, commented: “Loates had been given a second chance by the courts but decided to continue offending, resulting in time in prison.
“I would like to thank those who reported these offences to us as it allowed us to gather CCTV footage, identify Loates and arrest him.”
