Watch as man headbutts police officer leaving him with broken nose during incident in Peterborough

A man who broke a police officer’s nose and racially abused another during an incident in Peterborough has been jailed.

Cambridgeshire police say the assault happened as Terry O'Sullivan (38) was being arrested by officers who had been alerted to reports of a disturbance at a property in Welland, Peterborough, at about 2am on June 24.

A police spokesperson said: “O'Sullivan headbutted the arresting officer, before making racist comments towards another.

“Whilst in custody O'Sullivan continued to hurl racist abuse at the second officer for more than 15 minutes.”

The spokesperson said that the officer who was headbutted went to hospital where it was confirmed his nose was broken.

O'Sullivan, of Eastleigh Road, Eastfield, Peterborough, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and racially aggravated harassment.

He was jailed for 27 weeks at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court on January 6.

Afterwards, PC Amy Sibson said: “O'Sullivan’s behaviour during this incident was disgraceful.

“The assault was completely unprovoked.

"The officer acted professionally and politely, but O'Sullivan responded by attacking him.

“The prolonged racist abuse was disgusting and completely unacceptable.

“We won’t tolerate attacks on our officers or abuse such as this.

"I’m pleased O'Sullivan has now appeared in court and been jailed for his actions.”
