Police 'close' flat in Peterborough for three months due to drug dealing and anti-social behaviour concerns

A flat in Peterborough has been closed for three months due to concerns about drug dealing and associated anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Cambridgeshire police say the full closure order was served on 166 Gladstone Street, Millfield, following an application at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on February 27 by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

The three-month order prohibits everyone, including the legal tenant, from accessing the address, with the exception of emergency services and employees of Cross Keys Housing Association.

Failure to comply with the order is a criminal offence which could result in imprisonment for up to three months, a fine, or both.

A police spokesperson said the action was taken following a drugs warrant carried out by the team on January 23, where a quantity of both class A and class B drugs and cash were found at the address.

The spokesperson said: “A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug, possession of class A drugs, possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs, and two counts of profiting from or concealing knowledge of the proceeds of crime.”

He has been bailed until April.

PC Olly Holmes, from Peterborough’s Central NPT, said: “Drug use and associated criminality can have a significant impact on the community it happens in, and I hope this action provides nearby residents with some respite from the issues.

“For the duration of the order, the team will monitor the order closely to ensure that all breaches are dealt with, and I urge the community to report any concerns to us.”
