Detectives seek custody time limit extension for boy and man arrested on suspicion of murder in Peterborough

The 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy near the Orton Centre in Peterborough on Sunday evening (12 April).

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said: “A boy and a man arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Peterborough remain in custody this morning.

"Detectives are seeking an extension to the custody time limit from magistrates this morning and they remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.”

They say a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at Peterborough City Hospital tomorrow (April 15).

Police say that a 16-year-old girl from March has been charged with possessing a knife/bladed article in a public place and is due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on May 13.

The girl, who was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on conditional bail.

A 17-year-old girl from Peterborough who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on conditional bail until 8 July.

A cordon has now been taken down from around the area where the attack took place but police officers remain in the area today carrying out inquiries.

Detectives say they are also continuing to appeal for information about the attack.
