Owner Ram Krishna Bashyal, who opened in Stewartby Avenue, Hampton Vale, in December 2017, said he had taken the decision following Boris Johnson’s Covid-19 announcements on Sunday.

He joins the likes of The Banyan Tree, Tavan, Embe, Dog in a Doublet and Everest Kitchen at Yaxley offering takeaways.

Like all restaurants, Gurkha Lounge has been closed since March 20 in line with the Government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

But with no real insight into when restaurants might be allowed to welcome back customers, the kitchens will reopen for food eaten off site this afternoon.

He said: “After the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday there is obviously a very slim chance that we will be able to open the restaurant normally (with customers inside) for a long time.

“However, with social distancing measures in place we are starting our takeaway and delivery service. We will be opening Wednesdays to Sunday, 4.30pm to 9pm.”
