Peterborough Greggs to remain shut for now as hundreds of branches open across country

Peterborough residents will have to travel miles across the county if they fancy a steak bake or vegetarian sausage roll from Greggs as hundreds of branches across the country re-open - but not in Peterborough.

More than 800 branches of Greggs will re-open on Thursday across the UK, including nine in Newcastle - but none in Peterborough.

A spokesman for the chain said all branches not on the list for opening on Thursday would re-open in the second phase - currently planned for July 2.

The locations for opening on Thursday were selected for logistical reasons, including proximity to suppliers.

There are currently branches of Greggs in Bridge Street, Fletton Quays, Queensgate, Orton Gate, Long Causeway and Eye Green. branches in Spalding and March will also remain closed.

The nearest Cambridgeshire branch to open on Thursday will be in Cambridge.
