Sky high views of Peterborough show how the city has changed

Today’s Looking Back features four more splendid aerial shots starting with the view which shows the massive and unsightly former power station situated roughly where Asda and Rivergate is today. Other key city landmarks can be seen, including the lido, the town hall, Town Bridge and the cathedral.

The picture of Peterborough Regional College was taken some time around 1980.

From a similar date is the photograph showing the twin villages of Ailsworth and Castor. At the time this was the main route out to the A1 but now the bypass is in place, which would show on the right of the picture, if taken today .

The final picture was taken in 1977 and shows the East of England Show in its pomp.

It reveals how large an event it was – the biggest on the city’s social calendar.
