Looking Back: X-raying the way it used to be

Hard to believe but I took these pictures 46 years ago while portering in A&E and a sight you will never see again.

On the left is radiographer Steve Littlefare, who emigrated to Australia, and Dr J Urwin who is now a retired GP in London.

Mick Crate who is also retired is seen checking for fractures in a hand. Out of hours the radiographers single handedly X rayed several victims of serious road accidents, then developed the wet film, ready for diagnosis at the lightbox. This lengthy chemical process has now been digitised with instant results that can, if need be, be sent around the world in seconds!
