Chris Porsz: Brothers show they are still easy riders three decades later

Peterborough street photographer Chris Porsz presents another in his series of ‘now and then’ photographs.

Chris said: “From 1974 until 1986 I was an A&E porter at Peterborough District Hospital where I worked with Paul Smith (left), who was also a porter, and his brother Granville who worked as a chef in the kitchens.

“Paul loved his music from Tamla Motown, jazz, blues, ska to reggae and being a cool dude and snappy dresser he asked me to take some pictures for his portfolio.

“In 1982 we met outside his flat off Cobden Street, where Granville joined his brother on my motorbike.

“In 2014 I persuaded the brothers to join me for another picture to go in my book Reunions.

“In 2010 Granville moved to the new hospital as a chef and has recently retired after over 40 years in the NHS.

“He now loves to spend time on his allotment growing fresh and organic produce and then putting his culinary skills to good use for himself and his family.”

Paul later worked in local industry but poor health forced early retirement. His love of music sustains him and he also became a well-known DJ in clubs and on local radio.

Chris added: “I gave up my my motorbike as I did not want to encourage my children, especially after some close shaves and the carnage I had witnessed in A&E. For the reunion a local garage provided the latest model and it was great to meet up again with the brothers only 32 years later.”
