Peterborough City Hospital, which is one of 50 designated vaccination hubs across the country, began giving out jabs on December 9 and since then has been working tirelessly to immunise the city’s vulnerable population.

The vaccine is being given out on a priority basis, with over 80s, people with underlying health conditions and healthcare workers at the front of the queue. The vaccine is also set to be given to some GP surgeries in the city this week.

“Thousands of local people who are at greatest risk from Covid-19, such as those in the categories of over 80s, care home staff and other NHS clinically extremely vulnerable staff have been vaccinated, with many more

booked in over the coming weeks.

“I am extremely proud of our Trust’s vaccination team and other staff who have been redeployed to run the clinic who have all been working tirelessly to make this happen.”

The hospital’s vaccine hub also got a visit from the city’s MP today who was moved by the efforts of the staff in administering the jabs.

Mr Bristow said: “It was absolutely brilliant to see the Covid-19 vaccination programme, and clinic staff in action.

“It was humbling to see the NHS at its best.

“I enjoyed chatting with patients and staff carrying out the vaccinations and running the clinic, some of whom had volunteered to go back to work in the NHS after leaving the service or retirement.

“Among the smiles, what I saw from the patients was hope.

“It was emotional to witness.

“If you are invited to attend the clinic, please do go and get vaccinated.

“This is the way we will get back to normality as quickly as possible, save lives, and beat this terrible disease. With the arrival of new vaccines, the programme should ramp up in the New Year vaccinating many more in Peterborough and beyond.”
