Peterborough primary school wins prestigious Healthy School Award
A primary school in Peterborough has won a prestigious Healthy Schools Award.
The award for The Beeches Primary School, recognises the school’s trong and sustained commitment to the health, wellbeing and resilience of its pupils.
Following a rigorous assessment in March 2026, the school was praised for its “clear and strategic commitment to health, wellbeing and resilience,” with leadership, curriculum and pastoral systems all working together to support children both emotionally and physically.
This recognition follows the successful completion of the Healthy Schools Accreditation process.

The assessor highlighted several key strengths across the school. These included its strong mental health provision, with trained Mental Health First Aiders and targeted support programmes in place, as well as robust safeguarding systems that ensure early identification and support for pupils.
The report also praised the wide range of opportunities for pupil voice, including School Council and leadership roles such as Eco Champions and Playground Buddies.
A key strength identified was the strong governance and oversight that underpins this work. Senior leaders and governors play an active role in shaping, monitoring and evaluating the school’s approach to wellbeing, ensuring that it remains a central part of our vision. This strategic oversight ensures focus on health and wellbeing is not an isolated initiative, but an integral part of our holistic approach to education, where academic success and personal development go hand in hand.
Physical activity and enrichment were also recognised as strengths, with initiatives such as the Daily Mile, Forest School, and inclusive sports provision ensuring that all pupils can lead active lifestyles. In addition, our work around healthy eating, sustainability and environmental awareness was commended, alongside our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the curriculum.
The report concluded that The Beeches “should be proud of the structured and reflective approach it has taken, ensuring that students feel supported, listened to and equipped to thrive both academically and personally” .
David French, Curriculum Leader at The Beeches Primary School, said: “We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Healthy Schools Award. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our staff, pupils and wider school community to prioritise wellbeing in everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported and empowered, and this award celebrates the culture we have worked hard to build.”
