Peterborough optician tackles Olympic distances for charity

A Peterborough optician took on the challenge of an Olympic distance triathlon and raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research.
Chintu Patel, Ophthalmic Director at Specsavers Peterborough and Serpentine Green, took part in the Grafham Triathlon, swimming 1,500m, cycling 38km, and running 10km.
Chintu’s team at the store has already held multiple fundraising events for Cancer Research, whose work provides an essential service to people every day in the search for finding a cure for cancer.
Chintu says: "I completed the triathlon in just over three and a half hours – it was an electric atmosphere.
"In the weeks before, there was as a lot of training, which was tough, especially during the winter months, getting out and running and cycling in minus temperatures, but it’s been very rewarding.
"Thanks to Cancer Research, over 1 million lives have already been saved, and cancer mortality in the UK has been reduced by 22%. But there is still so much more to do.
"While I fortunately haven't had direct experience of their services, there aren't many people who don't have a connection with them.
"I want to honour those who have been affected, by raising vital funds to help save future lives. If you are able, please consider donating, every contribution makes a difference."
Anyone unable to visit the Specsavers Peterborough store unaccompanied due to disability or illness may be eligible to receive care at home via a team of mobile opticians. The Specsavers home visits service covers more than 90% of the UK.
