Deepings Camera Club celebrate 40 years of photography

Deepings Camera Club, founded in a Market Deeping pub in May 1985, are extremely proud to be celebrating their 40th Anniversary this month. After their AGM, the final weekly meeting of the 2024-25 season, three of the original members were cheered by the other members as they cut a celebratory cake.
Outgoing Chairman Dave Stewart (centre) said:
“Looking back to that very first meeting, I certainly could not foresee how big a part in my life Deepings Camera Club would become. Of the 40 years I think I have been on the committee for 37! I must thank all the committee members, past and present, for their incredible support and expertise in their various roles; it is very much a team effort to keep the club running as smoothly as it does.
"I also thank all the members. If you don’t come and support the club, then it’s all for nothing. It has been a treat to see the room consistently full to enjoy presentations from our visiting speakers, and also to see the amazing images you have produced.”
Dave outlined an exciting new project for the club starting in late September, a photography evening class to run for 6 weeks (initially). The aim is to encourage and help anyone to get the best from their camera, whatever type, including smartphones. He observed that everyone is a photographer these days but few people know how to take the pictures they really want.
The Anniversary Celebrations will continue on Sunday June 8th when the club are holding a Special Day of Photography at the Coronation Hall in Market Deeping. Three acclaimed photographers will be speaking at this event including arguably the UK’s top Landscape specialist Charlie Waite (booked over a year ago to make sure he came!). Charlie is supported by award winning creative and ICM specialist (and actor) Bill Ward, and award winning wildlife photographer extraordinaire Ben Hall. All three have donated prints to be raffled along with vouchers and other prizes, plus there will be a display of the club’s work and refreshments. It all promises to be a great day and there are a limited number of tickets still available.
